A Little Prep Goes a Long Way
We see it all the time — families rushing around the morning of their clean, tossing things into closets and apologizing for the mess. Here's the thing: you don't need a spotless house before we arrive. That's literally what we're here for. But a quick 15-minute declutter? That lets us focus on the deep stuff instead of working around piles.
What We Mean by Decluttering
We're not talking about a full Marie Kondo overhaul. We mean the basics:
- Clear countertops: Toss mail into a basket, put dishes in the sink or dishwasher. When counters are clear, we can properly sanitize every surface.
- Pick up floors: Toys, shoes, bags — anything on the floor slows down vacuuming and mopping. A laundry basket works perfectly for a quick sweep of the house.
- Bathrooms: Move personal items off shower ledges and counters so we can scrub every inch.
- Bedrooms: Clothes off the floor and into a hamper. We'll make beds, dust, and vacuum — but we can't do that if we're stepping over laundry.
Why It Matters for Your Clean
Our cleaners work on a time-based system. Every minute spent moving personal items is a minute not spent scrubbing your oven, getting behind the toilet, or wiping down baseboards. When you declutter before we arrive, you're essentially giving us permission to go deeper.
Think of it this way: you're not cleaning for the cleaners. You're giving us a clear runway so we can do what we do best.
The 15-Minute Family Blitz
Here's what works for a lot of our Grande Prairie families — especially the ones with kids:
- Set a timer for 15 minutes the night before or morning of your clean
- Give each family member a zone: one person handles the kitchen, another the living room, kids handle their own rooms
- Use the basket method: one basket per room, toss in anything that doesn't belong, sort it later
- Don't stress about dishes: load what you can, leave the rest in the sink — we'll wipe around it
That's it. Fifteen minutes of family effort, and you'll notice a real difference in how thorough your clean feels.
What You Don't Need to Do
Please don't pre-clean your house before a cleaning. We've had clients scrub their own bathrooms the night before because they felt embarrassed. That breaks our hearts. We're here because cleaning is our thing — and we genuinely love doing it well. Dirty grout, dusty fans, sticky stovetops — that's exactly what we signed up for.
Just clear a path, and let us handle the rest. That's what Simply Done is all about — giving you the freedom to spend your time on what actually matters to you.
